Four Women of Historic Ashland:
1. Madeline Mc Dowell Breckinridge 1890-1920
Henry Clay's great granddaughter: progressive reformer and leader of the women's suffrage movement in Kentucky and nationally.
"Kentucky women are not idiots, even though they are closely related to Kentucky men." -MMB
2. Nanette McDowell Bullock 1917-1948
Henry Clay's great-granddaughter: created the Henry Clay memorial Foundation, insuring Ashland's story and history are preserved today.
3. Lucretia Hart Clay 1781-1852
Henry Clay's wife for 53 years. They had 11 children, 8 predeceased their parents.
4. Magdalen Harvey McDowell 1883-1918
"Aunt Mag": artist, architect and inventor who encouraged her nieces Nanette and Magdeline to find their voices and accomplish great things.
